HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR NOVEMBER MEETING
A Meeting was held on November 3, 2012. The following were discussed and/or approved by the members present.
The club ended the season in good financial condition as reported by the Treasurer, Chuck Collier.
Many improvements were made at the club in 2012 including renovations to the bleachers, replacing all of the seating, but we still have a lot of work to do. Lighting is not adequate and all of the light poles need replacing. Also, the club does not own a PA system and the Timer is getting older and one with a digital arena readout is preferable.
The State show was a success. Wendy and Carlena brought home buckles for Halter Mares and Halter Geldings. Also Butch came in second to Wendy in Halter mares, Cortis placed in Ranch Riding and Madison (RSC's Overall Youth Champion) placed in three of her classes. Congratulations to All!!!!
A TSCA meeting was held October 25th where new Officers were elected. Proposals were made to change the Show Sec'y position to a Show Coordinator position and to elminitate term limits from the Treasurer's position. Also a Committee of 'Gaited' folks was formed to address concerns they have. The Committee will bring their recommendations forward to the next TSCA meeting. All changes will be voted on at the next meeting of the membership.
Nominations for RSC officer for 2012 were taken next, and the new officers are: Ann Derfler, President, Sharon Williams, VP, David Brown, 2nd VP, Joyce Collier, Sec'y and Chuck Collier, Treasurer. Prior to elections, this group of officers specified that they do not plan to have weekly club shows if elected. The TSCA requirement is one show per month for four months. An alternate schedule is pending and will include a Barrel & Pole event each month.
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR AUGUST MEETING
A meeting was held on August 4, 2012. The following were discussed and/or approved by the members present.
Anna England has agreed to Chair a committee to make plans and raise money/gifts for year-end awards. Volunteers are needed to help her out. The Board decided to give awards to the top five, overall youth point riders. The club has pledged the first $100. We have started a 50/50 Raffle -tickets $1.00 each of 6 for $5.00. A pot-luck supper is scheduled for November 3rd at the Tennessee Technology Center at Livingston.
The Fall Barrel & Pole Series plans were finalized and flyers are available for distribution. We are still working to get the arena in shape for these events and are looking for help to operate the shows. This is a fund raiser for the club and we need everyone to help out.
State Show information is now available. The deadline for registration is August 11th following our last point show. You must include a current, negative coggins with your application and it must be legible. Our workday at the show is Friday, August 31st.
Joyce Collier, Executive Sec'y
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR JUNE MEETING
A membership meeting was held on June 2, 2012. The following items were discussed and approved by the members present:
At the next club show on June 9, we will begin the show at 7:00 p.m. These are summer hours and we will continue this schedule until the State Show on Labor Day weekend. The Trail Class that was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on the last weekend of each month will now start at 6:00 providing participants are their early to prepare the course.
The Treasurer gave a report on our finances which are in good standing due to the efforts of our Fundraising Committee.
The arena is in good condition to due to weekly maintenance that has been done and the roto-tilling that was completed after our first show.
A big thank you goes out to the Rickman Volunteer Fire Dept. for some great concessions and clean restrooms!
Club points were up to date and available at the meeting. A discussion took place in regard to TSCA rules for various classes. TSCA rules can be accessed on http://www.tennesseesaddleclubs.com/ but if you have any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
We are going to attempt to pre-register folks that show in the same classes each week and that show on a regular basis.
We reminded eveyone that ONLY members are allowed to ride at club shows and/or after hours. The only exception is Open shows or at the Middle Tennessee Junior Rodeo. This is clearly outlined in our Policy document on Bylaws & Rules pages and posted at the club on the Announcer's booth where you sign up. Please abide by the rules for everyone's safety and protection.
Members present agreed to change the order of the show. First we will have all trotting Pleasure classes, next Gaited classes and then Speed Events. By grouping these together, we hope to keep the show moving a little faster.. We are also asking folks that are in the next class, after the one in the arena, to make your way to the waiting area outside the alley way.
It was also agreed that any year-end awards would be limited to Youth divisions and that our year-end banquet held in November would be a pot luck supper. We asked for volunteers to head up and organize fundraising efforts for this purpose. If you are interested in helping or making a contribution to year-end awards for our youth, please let us know.
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR MARCH MEETING
A membership meeting was held on March 3, 2012. The following items were discussed and approved by the members present:
A five-member Board of Directors was announced. They are Anna England, Angie Glascock, Diane Kennon, Terry Hammock and Trenda Green.
TSCA: Ann Derfler reported on the meetings she attended in Lebanon. The only major change was the elimination of classes that had less than 10 participants at the 2011 State show. They include Show Pleasure, Adult Speed Racking, Halter Stallions and Men's Western Pleasure. However, Men's Western Pleasure will be combined with Women's and become 'Adult' Western Pleasure. All changes will be posted on the TSCA website @ http://www.tennesseesaddleclubs.com/.
Grounds: Johnny Hamlet reported that there will be a work day at the arena on March 24th starting at 8:30 a.m. Locks will be changed and new keys will be available by the start of show season. It was also agreed that the restrooms would be repaired and that we need to block off a section of the grounds around the main entrance gate to the arena.
Fund Raising: Anna England reported on fund-raising efforts but more needs to be done. Joyce is having a jewelry party on March 9th to benefit the club as proceeds will be used for door prizes at the Spaghetti Supper on April 7th. The Supper will have a raffle and a silent auction to help raise funds. In addition, the membership voted to raise weekly sign-up fees from $3.00 to $5.00.
Shows: Jennifer Reynolds reported on show committee results - the Horsemen's Challenge plans are coming along well. Other open Shows will be a Fun Show with Barrels & Poles on July 14th, and a Barrel & Pole show on October 27th.
For Club shows, it was agreed to change the class schedule, dropping Youth Halter and adding Youth Showmanship, eliminating Yearling Halter and adding a 'Mystery' class - it's a mystery until you get there! None of these classes are TSCA classes. In addition, we will have TSCA Trail Classes but only on the last Saturday of each month. Also, at the last show each month, we will have Ribbon classes and a Sportsmenship award for Youth. An 'overall' Sportsmenship award will be given out at year-end awards. Weather related cancellations will be posted here on the website and on Facebook by 2:00 p.m. when/if possible.
Arena Use: A 'trial' plan to allow members to have day and/or evening, exclusive use of the arena was approved. There will be a set fee for this use and a policy is available to anyone that is interested (members only). Reservations must be made at least one week in advance. Exclusive use will not be available on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Those days are 'business as usual' for those members who purchase a key. On other days, everyone needs to check the website Calendar for availability. The Board reserves the right to terminate this option at any time.
There will be a Trail Ride for St. Jude on May 12th (details to come). OCHA is having a rodeo on May 19th at 7:00 p.m. which will also benefit St. Jude.
Important dates to remember: March 9th - Jewelry Party, March 24th - Work Day at Arena and April 7th - Spaghetti Dinner - then it's SHOWTIME!
